A blast from the past, sort of. The first "Ask Dr. Downtown" column since Sept. 18, 2008, derailed almost two years ago for reasons unveiled in tomorrow's column. "Why is Dr. Downtown abandoning downtown?" Well, is he? Check it out. Another better late than never advance on the week's column - the column itself has gone missing for two weeks. The vacation in Vermont, the closing on the house, the move from the apartment to the house - these are hard on regularity, regularity being the soul of columniation. Above is a map of the area we have moved to, from 1954, I think, courtesy of the Summit Neighborhood Association blog. (Sorry, unable to download it. Maybe something else later.) And by the way, there is something that remains awful about downtown, and it can be blamed, perhaps, on Jimmy Carter. Or maybe Gerald Ford, or Richard Nixon. Downtown is worse for the law that forces trucks to beep when they go backwards. I make no comment on whether that saves lives - I doubt it! - but the beeping, unlike the moronic motorcycle noise and car alarms, has not improved downtown. What will the next mayor do to resolve this crisis? CommentsPlease be civil. Vicious comments, personal attacks and profanity are not allowed.
