dreyfushotel.jpgSome readers might have attended the ribbon-cutting at the Mercantile Block yesterday. I have a yen to reprint my column about AS220's renovation of its next-door neighbor, the Dreyfus Hotel. Here is that column, "Artful restoration of the Dreyfus Hotel," from April 26, 2007. The view at left shows the Dreyfus from down Mathewson toward what's now PPAC. I figure it's from the 1950s. Look at all the businesses!

A successful building renovation is a successful building renovation, but some columns are better than others. Of this there can be no denial, so I won't take it amiss if some of readers mumble behind my back, after reading the Dreyfus column, that the Mercantile Block has been shafted - literarily - by your humbled correspondent.
