Values We want to build a zero emissions automobile that eliminates roadside re-fueling entirely, a safe powerful automobile that is comfortable and economic on both long trips and the commute to work, an automobile that can generate power to the home when it is parked, potentially creating an income stream for the owner. -Neil Young, About Lincvolt, his hybrid car-conversion company.

David Adams, in the St. Petersburg (Fla.) Times' Fueling Station blog:

Young has entered his car into the Progressive Automotive X Prize, in which different technologies will compete against each other during races across the United States.

The Lincoln Continental is 19.5 feet from bumper to bumper (the longest car of its time), weighs about 2 ½ tons and gets about 10 mpg.

Young plans to modify it using hybrid technology to meet the X-Prize requirements. He has partnered with Jonathan Goodwin's H-Line Conversions and UQM Technologies for the Linc Volt conversion that can run on gasoline, CNG or biofuels.

It also carries an onboard hydrogen generator, a hotly debated technology that some say can increase mileage. Young is currently testing the hydrogen generator at the Virginia Institute for Performance Engineering and Research (VIPER).

Young was at the Virginia International Raceway (in March) testing the Linc Volt. He is also producing a movie called Linc Volt based upon the experiment, which will be due out this fall.

Neil Young recently released his latest album "Fork in the Road", which is dedicated to the Lincvolt project that transformed his classic Lincoln Continental into a hot zero emissions vehicle that gets 100mpg. To celebrate the release of his latest album has released four videos which he would like to share with everyone. After all, if a 1959 vehicle can be green, what is stopping all current vehicles from achieving the same goal?

...Neil's goal with this project is to raise awareness of the available technologies that can turn pretty much any car into a fantastic green vehicle. To showcase his car, Neil will be driving to Washington on the hopes that he can impress lawmakers to promote green vehicles and technologies.

He got's the fame that opens doors and gives him a platform, a longtime alt-sensibility, the means to do something big and clean besides wash an elephant, and he doesn't want to end up as Perry Como.
